Schiff, Herman (David Behr) - writer , clan in Hamburg in 1807, mind. in 1867, Schiff wrote under various pseudonyms (most often: Heinrich Frese and Isaac Bernays); he was a cousin of G. Heine , who repeatedly mentions him in his works. Schiff was a journalist , editor, actor, musician, fencing teacher, ballet dancer, and finally found himself in the Hamburg working house for the poor. Heine wrote ο Sh.: "He is more talented than an infinite number of illustrious writers ... in literature - it’s all a matter of happiness ... when I read the wonderful thing of an unfamiliar author - I think that it is Sh." Sh. Has many works from Heb. contents: "Jewish short stories", 1856; Hundert und ein Sabbath, 1842; "Das Koschere Haus", 1866; Die wilde Rabbizin, 1866. His comic Heb. Was most famous. the novel Schief Levinche mit seiner Kalle, 1848.

Schiff also wrote on general topics and published a brochure, “On Heine and the New Trend in Jewry.”
