History
Radio Liberty was founded in Munich in 1952 at the height of the Cold War to conduct propaganda against the USSR . In 1953, began broadcasting under the name Radio "Liberation." The corresponding national editions, including Belarusian ones, were organized as part of the radio, which began broadcasting on May 20, 1954 . The first Belarusian edition includes: Vincent Zhuk-Grishkevich (head), Pyotr Sych (deputy), Vanya Limanovsky , Simon Kabysh (Kandybovich) , Leon Karas . Initially, these were 15-minute programs 24 times a day [1] .
The main directions of Freedom radio programs were criticism of socialism , the Soviet system, and the national-state structure of the USSR. They covered the negative phenomena from the history and modern life of the USSR and Belarus, including violations of human rights, political repression in the USSR and so on. It was reported about events and incidents that were hushed up in the Soviet media, about the human rights movement, dissidents, read works that were banned or inaccessible in the USSR.
After the collapse of the USSR and the end of the Cold War, the Belarusian edition of Radio Liberty is broadcasting in new conditions. In 1995, the headquarters of "Freedom" moved from Munich to Prague . Created correspondent points in Belarus. The editorial staff has expanded and updated.
The Belarusian service of Radio Liberty now broadcasts 8 hours a day on short and medium waves, as well as from a satellite. Since December 10, 1998, Radio has also been broadcast via social networks ; Radio Liberty’s website has been using tarashkevitsa [2] . Information and analytical programs are being broadcast on political, economic, cultural, historical, religious, regional and other issues. Established two-way communication with the audience. The journalists of Freedom are oriented towards Western liberal democratic values.
Since 2002, the Belarusian edition of Radio has been publishing books [3] , and since 2004 , CDs [4] .
In 2006, the Belarusian Service of Radio Liberty received the main prize for the best coverage of hot news among 20 editions of Radio Free Europe, and in 2007 for achievements in multimedia convergence. In 2008, the Belarusian Radio Service ranked first in terms of the population of the country concerned among other services of Radio Free Europe [5] .
Stanislav Stankevich , Yanka Zaprudnik , Natalya Arsenyeva [6] , Galina Ayzenshtat, Valentin Zhdanko, Yuri Drakohrust, Alexander Lukashuk , Sergey Naumchik , Danchik , Valentina Aksak and others are former and present employees of the Belarusian editorial staff of Radio Liberty.
