Born in the first half of the 4th century in Tournon , in the family of the governor of the province of Vivaire . His parents wanted to give his son a Christian education, and therefore they sent him to serve Paschas , Archbishop Viensky . The young man showed success in his studies, so that Claudius, the successor of the deceased Paschas, made him a deacon .
For about 350 years, the Lyon Episcopal Department proved to be vacant, and Just, contrary to his will, was forced to take it. Iust took part as one of the delegates from Gaul in two church councils: Valansky ( 374 ) and Aquileian ( 381 ).
Shortly after returning to Lyon from the last of them, Justus resigned from his position as bishop and went on a pilgrimage, accompanied by just one novice named Viator , who was also later declared a saint. In a monastery in Egypt , in the Skete desert, he spent several years as a simple monk.
The life of Justus was recorded at the end of the 4th century by a Lyon monk. One of the main churches of Lyon in the area of Old Lyon is named after Justus.
