Itto Ito ( Japanese 伊藤 一 長 Ito Itto , August 23, 1945 - April 18, 2007) - Japanese politician, mayor of Nagasaki .

Biography
He graduated from Waseda University . In 1995, he was elected mayor of Nagasaki. He held this post for three terms. He ran for a fourth term, but was killed during the election campaign. He was a supporter of nuclear disarmament. In 2005, on the sixtieth anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing, Ittö delivered a speech condemning US use of nuclear weapons. [2]
April 17, 2007 was wounded with two pistol shots at close range. After the assassination attempt, Itto was taken to the University Hospital of Nagasaki, but died on the morning of April 18 from blood loss [3] . Tetsuya Shiroo, a member of the Yakuza Yamaguchi-gumi group, turned out to be the killer of Itto. The cause of the murder could be a conflict that occurred between Syroo and the city administration in 2003. Then Siroo damaged the car, driving into a pit at a construction site [5] . On May 26, 2008, Shiroo was sentenced to death, but later the sentence was quashed [6] .
Itto became the second mayor of Nagasaki to be assassinated. His predecessor, Hitoshi Motoshima, in one of his speeches condemned the actions of Emperor Hirohito during the Second World War, after which an attempt was made on Motoshima, he was wounded, but survived [5] .
