The plot of the comedy detective focuses on the story of a clumsy policeman who ends up in a fishing town where drug mafia and superstition flourish. [8] [9]
A feature of this series is that each of its series was shot by a new director, [10] and the screenwriters were Tommy Virkola, Stig Frode Henriksen, Zayed Ali. [11] Produced by Tommy Virkola . The Norwegian television premiere took place on October 9, 2012 . [12]
The series is characterized as a cross between the series “ Twin Peaks ” and the film “ Like Cool Pointers ”. [1] [2] [13] Despite the similarities to the movie “ Like Cool Pointers, ” the scriptwriters insisted that they had not seen the movie before the script was written. [14] One of the striking differences is that in the series there are all kinds of allusions to the supernatural, [15] whether Salmander’s dreams of a priest or the name of the town. [14]
Residents of the town of Grüllefjord not only carefully watched the shootings, but also participated in them, supporting the film crew in every possible way. [8] [11]

Story
Salmander (Zayed Ali), a clumsy policeman from the Norwegian capital, kills his horse in an Independence Day parade. [10] The management decides to get rid of the policeman, spoiling the image of the metropolitan police, but can not do it immediately because of local laws. He is sent to a small town called Hellfjord, to work 3 months before leaving. [3]
The average age of the inhabitants is 67 years, 60% of the inhabitants work at the Hellfish fish factory. [2] Most residents smoke. [16] A sea monster lives in nearby waters, [17] but this is the lesser of Salmander’s problems. His assistant becomes Cobba (Stig Frode Henriksen), who watches as Salmander sleeps in one of the cells of the site. Fortunately, then Salmander finds a way out and settles in with a pensioner, who gives him signs of attention. The quiet and measured life of the town is violated by the report of a strange death, the investigation of which was undertaken by Salmander. Bosa Nova (Thomas Hanson) becomes a suspect, and a young journalist Yohanna (Ingrid Bolsay Berdal) will help Sal. [14]

Script
The idea of creating the series belongs to Zayed Ali, Stig Henriksen and Tommy Virkola . [12] They also acted as scriptwriters. [11] The lead actor also acted as a screenwriter. [8] According to the authors' idea, the picture was intended to combat the lack of a sense of humor among the inhabitants of the country and ridicule racism in every possible way. [12] She was to surprise the viewer. [12] According to Henricoson, the emphasis in the project was on the content and plot. [12]
Filming
The lead actor Zaid Ali spoke warmly about his project colleagues, especially Stig Frode Henrikson and Tommy Wirkole . [8] He also said that the shooting was fun, and the locals of the Grüllefjord carefully watched the shooting and supported them in every possible way. [8] One of the problems was the weather, which pumps up the atmosphere on the screen. [8] Ali Henrikson spoke of as a true professional with a great sense of humor. [8] Zayed Ali also said that for 15 years of his work on television, a situation has developed for the first time when filming has not yet been completed, and the project has already been sold abroad. [8] Despite the abundance of comic, there are also terrible episodes in the series. [8] The team discussed the creation of another season of the series abroad. [8] Ali talked about what was planned to be filmed in Ireland or Romania. [eight]
To create an image of his character, Henrikson drew inspiration from old French and Norwegian films and the work of the English comedian Peter Sellers , who is known for his roles as Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther and Dr. Stranglav at Kubrick . [12] French actor Alain Delon was another source of inspiration. [12] Henrikson spent 2 hours each day in a make-up chair. [12] According to Stig, good makeup is the key to success. [12] He worked hard on his movements and voice. [12] Henrikson spoke well of all the project participants and was generally pleased with his work. [12] He also noted that it was incredibly cool to work with Thomas Hanson, who starred with Bergman . [12]
Anna Wilsgard played an evil grandmother who lit a cigarette, and then leaned over and shook the ashes into a stroller. [11] The actress said that it was difficult to play the role, because she had no story, she just had to play one scene. [11] Local residents actively participated in the filming as extras. [11] At times, between the shoots there were long hours of waiting. [11] The actress recalls how she sat and smoked with a boy who was 14 years old. [11] It took several takes to shoot the scene, so I had to smoke a few cigarettes. [11] The actress was looking forward to the premiere and hoped that the show would not adversely affect their village of Grüllefjord. [11] The local administration, led by the mayor, also expected whether criticism of its leadership would follow the premiere. [eleven]
Artistic Features
The creators of the series characterized it as a cross between the series “ Twin Peaks ” and the film “ Like Cool Pointing ” with a touch of Norwegian flavor. [2] [3] However, they claimed that the connection with the movie “ Like Cool Pointers ” was just a coincidence, since they had not watched the picture before writing the script. [14] And yet there is a clear resemblance to the picture, the plot of which tells about a policeman falling into a small town in which the community commits a crime. [14] At the same time, the series has common features with the famous work of David Lynch , this applies not only to the police investigating a crime in a remote town, but also to the mysticism that the creators of the series alluding to, all in a very ironic form. [14] [15] Zayed Ali spoke of the series as " Twin Peaks ", but without dark forests and werewolves. [8] And Henrikson is like a mixture of something ugly with something beautiful. [12]
Broadcast
The series premiered at the Belfast Film Festival. [1] On October 9, 2012, Norwegian television premiered on NRK1 . [6] In 2013, actors Stig Frode Henrikson, Zayed Ali and Ingrid Bolsay Berdal presented the series at a festival in Austin , Texas . [7] [20] In November 2013, the series was shown in the USA on CBS , [10] after which they planned to adapt it for American television, Will Farrell became interested in the project. [3] In 2016, the series was broadcast in Poland. [21] The authors of the picture positioned the series as a series for men with black humor and hoped that soon, when asked about the Scandinavian series, people would have only one association, “Hellfjord”.
