Biography

He was born on February 24, 1897 into a peasant family in the village of Kovali of the Tsivilsky district of the Kazan province (today - the Urmarsky district of the Republic of Chuvashia). Since 1909 he worked in various industries of St. Petersburg , Arkhangelsk , Vyatka and Tver . He worked on peat mining, was a sailor. He participated in the battles of the First World War and the Civil War. In 1918, he fought near Pskov and Narva as part of the Eastern Front.

In 1919 he returned to his native village, was elected a member of the volost executive committee of the Soviets, secretary and chairman of the village council. One of the organizers of the collective farm "Mayak" (1929). Construction manager and first director of a starch factory (1931). In 1931-1936 deputy. directors and director of the Urmar MTS.

After graduating from the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy in 1939, the director of state farms in the Kazakh SSR. From 1941 he worked in the People's Commissariat of State Control of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1952-1954 the director of a state farm in the Kirov region. In 1954 he was appointed director of the Krasivinsky state farm of the Esilsky district of the Akmola region of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1956, the Krasivinsky state farm, led by Vasily Stepanov, gathered 11.6 centners of grain per hectare. For these outstanding successes in 1957 he was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor.
