Biography
Agnes is the daughter of Count Johann Georg Solms-Laubach (1546–1600) and his wife Margarita (1554–1606), daughter of Count George I of Schönburg-Glauchau .
On September 23, 1593, in Kassel, the 15-year-old Agnes married Landgrave Moritz of Hesse-Kasselsky , whom she met at the wedding of his older sister, Anna Maria of Hesse-Kasselsky . The wedding was celebrated in a big way, many royal guests were present. The marriage with the Calvinist countess strengthened Moritz’s relationship with the Calteran Counts Vetterauski, although Moritz did not choose his spouse for dynastic reasons, but based on feelings.
Agnes possessed numerous talents, was distinguished by beauty and kindness. Moritz deeply experienced the death of his wife, as evidenced by a letter written by him to the King of France Henry IV the day after the death of Agnes. Subsequently, Moritz of Hesse-Kasselsky married a second time to Julian of Nassau-Dillenburg .
