Strumigenys zandala (lat.) Is a species of small earthen ants from the subfamily Myrmicinae . Africa : Cameroon , Equatorial Guinea . Small ants (about 2 mm) with a heart-shaped head, extended posteriorly. Propodeum angular with a pair of teeth. They have long mandibles (head length HL 0.59-0.61 mm, head width HW 0.42-0.44 mm, mandibular index MI 43-45). Head dorsum with 6 distant hairs. Eyes with approximately 20 ommatidia. S. zandala is one of three closely related species from the scotti- complex complex, together with the taxa Strumigenys scotti and Strumigenys hastyla, they are united by the form of mandibles, cylindrical scapus of antennae, and relatively large eyes. The main color is tan. Mandibles long, narrow (with several teeth). The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, pupae are naked (without cocoon). Specialized coleball hunters. The species was first described in 1983 by the English worldmecologist Barry Bolton [1] [2] .
