Evgeni Aleksandrovich Nielsen (September 29, 1872, St. Petersburg - June 21, 1965, Yalta) - one of the founders of the Institute of Physical Methods of Treatment named after I.M.Sechenova, scientist, neurologist, physiotherapist.

Biography
In 1896 he graduated from the Imperial Military Medical Academy (Military Medical Academy named after S. M. Kirov) in St. Petersburg. He began the medical service as the resident of a military hospital in Warsaw under the guidance of prof. L.V. Blumenau. During this period, E. A. Nielsen published his first scientific works: “On the Peculiarities of Writing in Mentally Sick”, “On the Connection of Mental Illness with Crime in the Army”, “On the Survey of Draftees, etc. In 1907, in the clinic of prof. V. M. Bekhtereva E. A. Nielsen defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic: “Pathological anatomy of the nervous system in chronic alcoholism”.
In 1913, E. A. Nielsen resigned from military service and at the invitation of prof. AE Shcherbak accepted the post of his deputy. Since this year, they have been working to create the Institute of Physical Therapies, which opened on May 12, 1914.
In 1923, approved by the head of the neurological clinic.
After the death of prof. A. E. Shcherbak (04.23.1934) E. A. Nielsen is appointed director of the State Central Scientific Research Institute of Physical Therapy named after prof. Sechenov [1] and remains with him until his retirement in 1951.
In 1938 he was elected by the population of Sevastopol a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Crimean ASSR.
During the Great Patriotic War in September 1941, together with the institute, he was evacuated to the Borovoye resort in Kazakhstan.
In 1943, the institute was transferred to Kislovodsk, where E. A. Nielsen worked on the basis of an evacuation hospital, and in 1944 he returned with the institute to Crimea, to Yalta.
He was a member of the CEC of Crimea, was repeatedly elected deputy of the Sevastopol City Council, deputy chairman of the All-Union Society of Physiotherapists. He headed the society of physiotherapists and balneologists of Yalta, participated in the All-Union congresses of physiotherapists and balneologists.
Scientific activity
Under his leadership, B.V. Likhterman investigated the influence of various methods - for injuries of the peripheral nervous system, G. M. Slavsky - on the healing rate of craniocerebral injuries, A. N. Goldman - in case of intoxication, A. I. Sorkin - on recovery hearing impairment of the brain, etc.
Edited by prof. E. A. Nielsen published all the works of A. E. Shcherbak, monographs by V. A. Glinka, M. M. Orlov, B. V. Likhterman, M. A. Borodina, V. L. Tovbin, A. A. Belsky , M. E. Utzal, physiotherapy guidelines, etc.
Over 100 publications, including monographs, manuals.
Awards and recognition
He was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Science of the RSFSR, Hero of Labor [ specify ] . He was awarded the Order of Lenin, medals "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War", "For valiant labor", "For the defense of the Caucasus."

His brother is Victor A. Nielsen .
