Biography

He graduated from a village school, before the war he worked at a factory. After Estonia joined the USSR and Estonia was occupied by the Germans, he was drafted into the German army, namely the Waffen-SS , into Estonian volunteer units. He studied at the Heide military camp, after which he was sent to the front. He fought near Narva, on the Tannenberg line and on the Blue Hills near Tallinn. After the Germans retreated, he fled to the forests and, despite the amnesty declared in 1946, was afraid to return home.

After some time, Hulot left the “forest brothers” and returned to work, but letters began to come to him asking him to come for interrogation. In the fall of 1946, the NKVD searched his house in the absence of the owner, and soon Altermann again fled to the forest. He served in the Oregon squad, but he himself led a large group of people called the “Hulot Alterman group.” According to the NKVD, Hulot’s detachment was hiding in the village of Koeru in the Paide district. "Brothers" under his command were distinguished by high moral qualities and excellent discipline. In 1953, in the town of Mäeküla they blew up a monument to Lenin.

In the spring of 1954, an ambush was organized on the Altermann squad. On April 15, 1954, he was killed in a shootout with police.
