History

Archivist Paul Raymond noted that in 1385 the village of Castagnède et Mu (the commune was so mentioned in the records of the Sanctus-Severus de Muro dating from the 12th century , Abbey of Saint-Jean-de-Sorde) consisted of 51 villages and belonged to the Diocese of Dax. The village was dependent on the Bailiwick Mu et Labastide-Villefranche, which stretched across Labastide-Villefranche , the current commune of Oraas and Saint-Dos . [3]

Traces of the village of Castagnède were discovered in the Bearn region in the 11th century . Legend has it that she was occupied by the Moors after their defeat in 732 and the local lord married the Saracen princess. Until 1790, the village was a common territory with the settlement of Mur (or My). The village served as the border between Gascony ( Auterrive ) and Navarre ( Escos ) and depended on Bishop Dax.

Theod Membrède was a vassal of La vicomté de Bearn and was dependent on the bailivik My. The church hid the burial place of the famous and ancient family of Membrède . The castle was owned by the Dufourcq family until 1876 . The cemetery was also the grave of adventurer Faustin Lestage , who was the first to find oil in France on the slopes of Pène de Mur . The cross of Hosannière was also found, which probably dates back to the Roman occupation [4] [5] .
