Biography
He was born on April 16 (29), 1906 in Pavlograd, Yekaterinoslav province . In 1929 he graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Mining Institute , and a year later he went to work as the head of the laboratory of the Dnepropetrovsk Coal Chemical Institute and at the same time taught at the Dnepropetrovsk Chemical and Technological Institute , where in 1935 he became a professor . In 1936, the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences approved Leonid Mikhailovich to the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences without defending a dissertation for the development of a plastometric method for testing coal. In 1937 he moved to Moscow and until 1967 he headed the laboratories of chemistry and coking of coal at the Institute of Combustible Minerals of the Academy of Sciences . In 1946 he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences [2] [3] .
Scientific activity
The main direction of the scientist's scientific activity is coke chemistry . Together with L.P. Bazilevich [4] in 1930-1934, he developed a plastometric method for testing coal, which made it possible to evaluate their properties, select coal mixtures and compose blends , and also proposed a classification of coal from the USSR coal basins based on this method. [2] In the 1950s, he developed a method for producing molded blast furnace coke from cheap low-caking coals based on continuous coking [3] .
