- monitor the development of the Danish language;
- respond to requests for the functioning and use of the Danish language;
- update the Danish Spelling Dictionary ( Dat. Retskrivningsordbogen ).
Council employees monitor the content of print and electronic media , read books published in Danish, and record the appearance and use of new words and terms . New words that have become widespread are officially added to the Spelling Dictionary of the Danish language, which all state and educational institutions must follow by law [2] . The Council annually receives about 14 thousand requests by phone and in writing, half of them from organizations, and the other half from individuals.
The Danish Language Council cooperates on an ongoing basis with organizations - language regulators from other Scandinavian countries: the Swedish and Norwegian Language Council , developing and coordinating joint activities.
