He is considered the son of Megacles Alkmeonid and Kesira, and the brother-in-law of Pericles .
In prosopographic and genealogical literature, for convenience, it is usually referred to as Megacle (V) [1] [2] .
He was sent at the head of the embassy to the Persian king in Ecbatana . Aristophanes , who mentions this mission in the Acharnians , dates its sending by the year of Archon Euphimenus (437/436 BC) [2] , but E.V. Rung considers the first years of the Peloponnesian war more likely and links this diplomatic action with an attempt by the Athenians to receive Persian financial assistance to fight Sparta [3] .
The ambassadors were supposed to bring gold from the king, but returned empty-handed, however, accompanied by a Persian official, Pseudo-Artaba, who held the position of the Tsar's Eye. The Athenian authorities arranged a ceremony for the Persian delegation in the tribute , indicating that the Persians were no longer perceived as enemies of Greece [3] .
The choice of Megacles as an ambassador was explained by the long-standing xenic ties of his family in Asia Minor [4] , and also, possibly, by kinship with Pericles.
According to the scholars of Pindar , the quadriga of Megakla won the chariot race at the Olympic Games in 436 BC. er [1] [5]
