History
The Catholic parish in Berestowice was created in 1495 [3] . In the 16th century, a wooden church existed in Berestovitsa, which burned down during the Livonian War . In 1615, at the expense of Jerome Khodkevich , a Carmelite monastery was built here and with it a wooden church, which in 1741 was rebuilt in stone and is now known as the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary [4] .
After the suppression of the 1863 uprising, many Catholic churches in the territory of modern Belarus were transferred to the Orthodox, including the Carmelite Church of the Visitation in Bolshaya Berestovitsa (transferred in 1866) [4] . Catholics repeatedly tried to obtain permission to build a temple, but received it only at the beginning of the 20th century. The Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the Neo-Gothic style was built in 1908-1912 at the expense and at the initiative of the owner of the estate Count Kosakovsky [5] . Near the temple in 1913, the building of the building was built, preserved to this day [2] .
The Transfiguration Church was consecrated on October 2, 1912 [3] . It was closed in 1965, the building was converted into a warehouse. In 1989 it was returned to the Catholic Church, in 1990 it was restored [3] .
Architecture
The Transfiguration Church in plan is a rectangular three-nave basilica with a five-sided apse . The main facade is vertically oriented, completed with a three-tier four -tower bell tower, which on the second tier is decorated with a false pseudo-Gothic shield and completed with a high tent. The verticality of the composition is enhanced by step buttresses and lancet openings. The entrance is solved by an arched portal , the main door is decorated with art forging. The coloristic solution of the building is achieved by combining the textured masonry of the walls with the color of natural stone and white, plastered elements of the architectural decor: shovels, cornices, plinths, niches [1] .
The interior of the temple is also made in the neo-Gothic style, the naves are covered with lancet arches.
