Biography
Born in Leningrad. All his life before retirement he worked as an electric welder.
Member of the USSR championship in chess in 1967 . One of the strongest blitz players in the USSR [2] [3] . Five-time blitz champion of Leningrad. In 2002, he won the St. Petersburg blitz championship at the age of 65 [2] .
According to grandmaster D. Bronstein, “his countless victories in blitz tournaments are explained by the fact that he extremely skillfully created difficult situations” in which rivals who were accustomed to the “competent game” were simply lost [4] .
He died in a dream from a heart attack at a blitz tournament [1] on the night of September 5-6, 2004 [5] .
