History
For the first time in the history of Sakhalin basketball, in 2015, a professional team was created on the island. The head of the Sakhalin Region Oleg Kozhemyako took the initiative to create a basketball team on the basis of the Sakhalin professional sports club. His proposal was supported in the Russian Federation by Basketball and allowed the team to participate in the Super League-1 division , bypassing the lower leagues. Oleg Kozhemyako believes that the creation of the first professional team will give a huge impetus to the development of basketball in the entire Sakhalin region , as well as open new prospects for the younger generation. Prior to this, for forty years, the only club that represented the Far East in the championship and Cup of Russia was Spartak-Primorye .
In June 2016, Sakhalin applied for participation in VTB United League 2016/2017 . On July 16, 2016, at the League Council, the PSK Sakhalin application was not satisfied due to non-compliance with the regulations of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport, which until November 30, 2016 does not work twice a week due to repairs [1] .
