Story
On the planet Peladon, clashes are taking place between the government and the miners from trisilicate mines led by Gebek and the impatient Ettis, who stands for better conditions. The planet is ruled by Queen Talira, the daughter of the last King Peladon, sympathetic to him, but knowing that the outcome of the war of the Galactic Federation with the warlike Fifth Galaxy depends on the supply of the mineral. The miners are worried about the vision of Aggedor, the royal beast who began to appear in the mines and kill the miners, including the alien engineer Vega Nexos. Chancellor Ortron is trying to convince the queen that this is a sign of rejection of an alien presence on the planet, but she remains adamant.
The Doctor and Sarah arrive at the TARDIS Citadel. He recalls his visit to Peladon fifty years ago when the planet joined the Federation, and is glad to see the face of the delegate Alpha Centauri, now the ambassador of the Federation. The Queen knows that the Doctor knew her father, and asks for his help in finding the reasons for the appearance of Aggedor. He suggests that someone intentionally sabotages the production of trisilicate, and has already achieved miners' strikes. Ettis will soon attack the Weapons Federation, and the rioters receive weapons. Engineer Eckersley, seeing this, asks the ambassador to call for reinforcements from the Federation to restore supplies.
The miners and the Peladon authorities do not like the occupation of the Federation, especially when the arrived ice warriors demonstrate their cruelty by killing the Peladon. The only thing that worries their leader, the commander of Azaxir, is the supply of trisilicate. Ortron and Gebek join forces to free the planet from the Martians. Ettis goes crazy and dies when he tries to blow up the Citadel. Ice warriors declare martial law, detain the queen and her courtiers, and kill Ortron trying to escape.
The truth is revealed: Azaxir and Eckersley are agents of the Fifth Galaxy, fueling the crisis, and occupation means controlling the supply of trisilicate. Aggedor’s appearances are simply images to maintain panic. Gebek leads the Peladonians to the ice warriors, and Azaxir and the aliens die. Eckersley tries to kill the queen, but he is killed by the real Aggedor, who also perishes. Soon news reaches Peladon: because of the failure of the scam, the Fifth Galaxy capitulates. Talira is going to appoint Gebek the new Chancellor, and the Doctor and Sarah, as usual, quietly fly away.
