Iraq’s refusal to leave Kuwait led to the Gulf War and the return of the Kuwaiti government on February 26, 1991.

Governors

On August 2, 1990, at 2.00 a.m., an Iraqi group of 120,000 soldiers and 350 tanks invaded Kuwait . The operation was lightning-fast, by August 4, the Kuwaiti army was completely defeated, and the country's territory was taken under control by Iraqi forces.

Saddam Hussein 's cousin, a prominent Iraqi statesman and military figure, Ali Hassan al-Majid , who led the occupation of Kuwait , was appointed governor of the newly formed governorate. He renamed the occupied territory, naming in honor of the president - Saddamia . In September, al-Majid passed a decree according to which all buildings with the emblem or paintings of the Kuwaiti emir should be burned and the owners arrested. Kuwaitis were forbidden to wear and grow beards [2] .

In November 1990, Aziz Salih al-Numan , who was also actively involved in his occupation, was appointed the new governor of Kuwait (Al-Saddamiya). At the new post, he ordered massive robberies in Kuwait. He is also believed to be responsible for raping Kuwaiti women.

After the expulsion of Iraqi forces from Kuwait, both led a brutal suppression of the wave of Shiite and Kurd uprisings in Iraq .
