Career
He trained under the guidance of Gennady Stepanovich Solodov [1] . At the 1976 World Cup, he entered the top ten at a distance of 50 km.
Silver medalist of the USSR championship at a distance of 20 km in 1980. Bronze medalist of the USSR Championship at a distance of 50 km in 1976 and 1985. Bronze medalist of the USSR championship at a distance of 20 km in 1978.
In 1978 and 1979 he became the champion of the USSR at a distance of 5000 meters in the premises.
At the Moscow Olympics at a distance of 20 km, he became fourth, stopping a step away from the podium with a result of 1: 26: 28.3.
At the World Race Walking Cups in 1981 (Valencia) and 1983 (Bergen), he was 4th and 5th respectively.
At the 1983 World Cup he won bronze at a distance of 20 km.
After the end of his career, he became a coach. He brought up many walkers from the Russian team.
On April 21, 2016, he received a 4-year suspension, which entered into force on January 29, 2016. [2]
