The IIHF European Champions Cup is an annual ice hockey sport competition held in 2005-2008 under the auspices of the IIHF . The tournament was the heir to the European Cup and Euroleague Hockey . Six European champions, who have the highest IIHF rating, took part in the cup. All four tournaments held were held in the Ice Palace of St. Petersburg , the home arena of the SKA club. In April 2007, the IIHF announced that the European Champions Cup will replace the Hockey Champions League .

All four tournaments held were won by champions from Russia . At the same time, four different teams did this: Avangard ( 2005 ), Dynamo Moscow ( 2006 ), Ak Bars ( 2007 ), Metallurg Magnitogorsk ( 2008 ). The Finnish club " Karpat " was the only one who participated in the tournament three times. He was also the only one to play twice in the final of the competition.

History
The European Cup was the successor to the Hockey Euroleague , the last draw of which took place in 2000. All European Champions Cup tournaments were held in the Ice Palace of St. Petersburg , the home arena of the SKA club. The format of the European Champions Cup has not changed throughout all four draws of the tournament. Six European champions, who have the highest IIHF rating, took part in the cup. Five countries participated in all tournaments ( Russia , Finland , Sweden , Czech Republic , Slovakia ), Germany took part only in 2005, since 2006 it was replaced by a team from Switzerland . Six teams were initially divided into two groups of three teams. After that, the best teams of each group reached the final. Since 2006, instead of naming groups, there has been division into divisions. The divisions received the names of Ragulin - in honor of the famous Soviet hockey player Alexander Ragulin and Glinka - in honor of the famous Czech hockey player and coach Ivan Glinka .
All four tournaments held were won by champions from Russia . In 2005, β Vanguard β in the final defeated β Karpat β only in overtime 2: 1. The winning goal was scored by Jaromir Jagr . In 2006, Dynamo Moscow won the same Karpat in a series of shoot- out shootings with a score of 5: 4. The victorious bullet that brought the Dynamo trophy was played by Igor Mirnov . The next tournament was held with the clear dominance of Ak Bars , the result of which was the defeat in the final of the Finnish COD - 6: 0. The top scorer of that tournament was Alexei Morozov , who scored 10 (2 + 8) points in 3 matches. This indicator is the best among all tournaments. The last European Champions Cup was won by Magnitogorsk Metallurg , having defeated Sparta in Prague in the final with a score of 5: 2. In April 2007, the IIHF announced that the European Champions Cup will replace the Hockey Champions League .
