Cienfuegos, Mauricio

José Mauricio Cienfuegos ( Spanish: José Mauricio Cienfuegos ; born February 12, 1968 in San Salvador , Salvador ) is a former Salvadoran footballer . He played as a midfielder in various Salvadoran and Mexican clubs, as well as in the American Los Angeles Galaxy , where he spent 8 seasons and was one of the leading players in this team. He was a player in the national team of El Salvador , for which he spent 68 matches.

Currently works as a football coach. He coached the Salvadoran Nehapu in 2008. Since 2011, she has been working at the Los Angeles Galaxy Club Academy.

Club career

Cienfuegos began his career in the Salvado teams of Racing Junior and Soyapango , after which in 1988 he moved to the more eminent local Luis Angel Firpo , in which he became the champion of the country three times. In 1991, he moved to Mexico, where he played for Monarcas Morelia , and since 1992 - for Santos Laguna . Finding himself unsatisfied with his place at Santos Lagoon, Cienfuegos decides to try his hand at Europe. He was close to signing a contract with the Spanish club Lerida , a newcomer to Spanish Examples in the 1993/94 season. But in the end, Cienfuegos returned to Salvador, where he continued to play for Luis Angel Firpo.

In 1996, he signed a contract with the MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy , where he spent 8 seasons and became one of the best playmakers in the league. Cienfuegos repeatedly took part in matches of all the stars of the league, three times was one of the 11 best players of the year MLS.

International Career

Cienfuegos made his debut in the Salvador national team in 1987. For 16 years, he spent 68 games for the national team and scored 8 goals. Cienfuegos represented his country in 32 matches of the World Cup qualifiers [1] , played at the Central America Cup of Nations 1995 [2] and two CONCACAF Gold Cups ( 1996 , [3] 1998 [4] ).

The last time he played for the Salvador national team in July 2003 was in a friendly match against the Mexican national team at the Stubhab Center in California (USA).
