The early years

Bleta Rex was born on August 30, 1989 in Brooklyn , New York , USA , in a family of ethnic Albanians (the Albanian version of the surname is Reg), immigrants from the modern city of Debar , Macedonia [10] . Has Macedonian and American citizenship. Rexa began to get involved in music at the age of 4, and subsequently took part in productions of musicals from the Tottenville High School in Staten Island , such as “ Hello, Dolly! ” , “ Jesus Christ is a superstar ” and “ Violinist on the roof ” [11] . She is inspired by such musicians as Stevie Wonder , Tori Amos , John Legend and The Temptations [11] . As a teenager, Rex was awarded the “Best Composer” award from the National Academy of Art and Recording Science at the annual Grammy Day in New York [11] , which allowed her to meet many prominent music producers.

Black Cards

Rex in 2014

In 2010, the singer joined the Black Cards project, created by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz . According to Wentz, in the creative plan, Black Cards should not have anything to do with the Fall Out Boy. Since the musical roots of the project founder and the vocalist were completely different, Rex turned out to be a suitable candidate for the implementation of Wentz’s experimental aspirations [12] . In January 2012, the singer left Black Cards, motivating her decision with a desire to focus on her solo career [13] . According to Wentz, the separation occurred by mutual agreement [14] .

Solo career

In 2013, Rex signed a contract with Warner Bros. executives . Records by Jeff Fenster and Alex Wilhelm [15] due to success as a professional composer , writing the song “Like a Champion” for Selena Gomez from the Stars Dance album, then the single “Glowing” for South African native Nikki Wilms and the song “The Monster” by Eminem and Rihanna , which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 [16] . The song “The Monster” was originally called “Monster Under My Bed” and was recorded by Rexa for his debut solo album, but later thanks to the producer of Frequency and vice president of A&R Atlantic Records Riggs Morales, the song was transferred to the Eminem label. As a result, the original version of the composition was slightly reduced [5] .

In the same year, Rexa released an original pop track on her SoundCloud page, “Comeback Kids,” and a joint single with electronic dance music group Cash Cash , “ Take Me Home, ” which ranked 57th on the Billboard Hot 100 [17] . Cash Cash and Bibi also recorded an acoustic version of “Take Me Home” and shot a video clip on it on February 25, 2014 under the auspices of Big Beat Records [18] .

Rexa is working on his debut album, which is associated with studios by producers such as David Guetta , Fraser Smith , Frequency and others. On March 21, 2014, the singer released the first single from her debut album, “ I Can't Stop Drinking About You, ” through Warner Bros. Records. Records [19] . On December 23, 2014, Rexa released her second single, “ I'm Gonna Show You Crazy ” [20] . Then, on the same day, she released the song “ Gone ” [21] . On April 21, 2015, Rexa announced that she would release a 5-track mini-album, “ I Don't Wanna Grow Up ” [22] . She released her album on May 12, 2015 via Warner Bros. Records [23] .

On October 28, 2016, Rexa released the single “ I Got You ” [24] , which was included on the All Your Fault: Pt. 1 and was able to reach 43rd place on the Billboard Hot 100 [25] . On January 6, 2017, a music video was shot for this song.

On January 24, 2017, Rexa announced her first major All Your Fault Tour tour , which kicked off on March 1, 2017 in Dallas. [26]

On March 21, Rexa announced on her Twitter that her third mini-album, All Your Fault Pt. 2 will be released in April [27] (it was released on August 11, 2017).

On June 15, 2018, the release of “I'm a Mess” was released , presented as the first single from the upcoming Expectations album.

In 2018, the singer was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category " Best New Artist ", but in the end this award was awarded to Dua Lipa [28] . In the same year, Rex's single “ Meant to Be ”, recorded together with the country group Florida Georgia Line , was nominated for a Grammy in the category “ Best Country Performance by a Duet or Group ”, but lost the song of the duo Dan + Shay "Tequila" [28] .
