“Erica” is the fifth tropical cyclone of the Atlantic hurricane season 2015.
The hurricane caused severe destruction in Dominica . Prime Minister Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit expressed the opinion that as a result of the devastating impact of the hurricane, the country was rejected in development 20 years ago [1] [2] .
Meteorological history
On August 20, 2015, the US National Hurricane Center discovered a tropical wave near the Atlantic coast of Africa. Moving rapidly westward and passing through Cape Verde on the same day, the wave gradually acquired the strength of a tropical cyclone . By means of remote sensing of the atmosphere on August 25, the wind speed was determined, the cyclone was classified as a tropical storm and received the name "Eric" ( English Erika ). At this time, the epicenter of the storm was located in 1535 km east of the Leeward Islands .
