William Shaw (c. 1550-1602) was the main manager of work at the Scottish court, as well as the Great Overseer of Scottish lodges. He was the organizer of Masonic lodges in Scotland, created the Masonic system of symbols, was the founder of the Masonic hierarchy and secret identification marks. [one]
