History

Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR was introduced to the general public in 1999 as a joint project of DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars Ltd. The purpose of the development is to create a competitor for the McLaren F1 .

The car was equipped with a V8 engine from the S-Class [1] with a supercharged engine with a working volume of 5439 cm 3 , delivering power of 557 hp. (720 N · m ) [1] . Speed at 100 km / h. Vision SLR develops in 4.2 seconds, maximum speed - 320 km / h. The weight of the concept car was 1400 kg. Installed on the car front wheels 245/35 / ZR-19 and rear - 285 / 30ZR-20. Designers installed an elongated V-shaped bonnet, wide wings and gull-wing-style doors on the Vision SLR, based on the stylistic ideas of the 1950s SL models and their racing versions of the SLR [1] [3] .

For the first time in the history of Mercedes-Benz , an electro-hydraulic brake system was used [4] .

A little later, in 1999, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the roadster version of the Vision SLR [1] .

In 2004, the Vision SLR was launched into mass production (unlike its counterpart, the Mercedes-Benz Vision SLA , which remained a concept) [2] . A total of 3500 units were released [1] . The engine power was subsequently refined: 460 kW (626 hp) at 6500 rpm, maximum torque : 780 N · m [1] .

The cost of the car was $ 300,000 [5] .
