Coriandrum ( lat. Coriándrum ) is an oligotype genus of herbaceous plants of the Umbrella family ( Apiaceae ). Includes only two species [3] , originating from the western regions of Western Asia .

One species of Coriandrum tordylium is found only in the wild within the area of natural distribution in Lebanon , Syria and Turkey .
Another type of Coriander sativum ( Coriandrum sativum ) is known as a popular aromatic plant, and therefore it is widely cultivated and distributed throughout the world.
One or biennial plants with a thin, bare, branched stem. Fruits are globular in shape, tightly assembled.
There are two generally recognized types:
- Coriandrum sativum L. - Coriander seed , or vegetable coriander , or chicken , or cilantro
- Coriandrum tordylium ( Fenzl ) Bornm.
