Pitekunsaurus (lat.) - a genus of dinosaurs - sauropods from the tribe Aeolosaurini , who lived during the Upper Cretaceous era ( 83.5–70.6 million years ago) on the territory of modern Argentina [2] . The only species of Pitekunsaurus macayai was described by L. Filippi and A. Garrido in 2008, whose generic name comes from pitekun , which means “open”, a species given in honor of the discoverer, explorer from the oil company Luis Macaya ( Spanish: Luis Macaya ), who found fossil in April 2004.
