To get the TeX code (hereinafter “TeX” is understood as “TeX or LaTeX”) of the typed formula, you need to copy the formula in the TeXaide window, and then use the “Insert” in a text editor. There is also the possibility of inserting images of the typed formula into the document (.doc, .rtf, etc.).

The conversion to TeX is one-way, that is, it is impossible to insert a formula in the TeX view back into the TeXaide window, however, under certain conditions, you can still open the typed formula for further editing (see below “Basic Features” and “Undocumented Features”).

Key Features

  • WYSIWYG formula set and its conversion to TeX-code
  • When recruiting formulas, you can use:
    • Mouse - similar to Microsoft Equation Editor
    • Keyboard shortcuts. Combinations are indicated in the status bar when you hover over the desired character or template in the panel (if there is such a combination for it)
  • Formula translation in TeX is configured:
    • You can choose one of the formats: AMS-LaTeX, AMS-TeX, LaTeX 2.09 and later, Plain TeX
    • You can select inline or off formula
  • When setting the appropriate option in the settings, together with the TeX code, the formula code in the TeXaide internal format will be copied (in the form of TeX comments) to the clipboard. This code can be inserted back into the program window for further editing the formula
  • You can copy both the whole formula and its part
  • The display of all formula elements is customizable.

Undocumented Features

The following TeXaide features are not listed in the program documentation.

  • Formulas typed in Microsoft Equation Editor and MathType can be copied from document text and pasted into the TeXaide window. Then you can edit the formula and get its TeX code in the usual way
    • This allows you to convert formulas in a document created in Word or another word processor into TeX
    • Using scripts in the scripting languages JScript or VBScript, the conversion process can be automated
  • A formula typed in TeXaide can be inserted into a document not only in a TeX text form, but also as an image. To do this, use the “Paste Special” menu item in the word processor (in Word and WordPad, in the “Paste” menu) and select “Image (Metafile)” from the list of suggested formats
  • This image can be copied and pasted into the TeXaide window again for further editing the formula.
