The T-72AG ( T-72AG ) is an export version of the modernization of the Soviet main battle tank T-72 , made using the main components and assemblies of the T-80UD and T-84 tanks [1] .

Content
History
The T-72AG tank was first shown in 1997 at the IDEX '97 exhibition of weapons and military equipment in Abu Dhabi [1] .
On December 6, 2014, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were given a batch of equipment, which included T-72 tanks of various modifications [5] .
In early February 2015, the general director of the Ukroboronprom group of companies, Sergey Pinkas, reported that since mid-2014, Ukraine had suspended exports for the types of weapons and military equipment that the armed forces of Ukraine need [6] .
In the future, T-72 tanks (and their modifications) were excluded from the catalog of armored vehicles offered for export by Ukrspetsexport [7] .
Description
Modernization of the T-72 tank to the level of the T-72AG provides for:
- replacement of a standard power plant with a new multi-fuel diesel engine of the 6TD series (6TD-1 with a capacity of 1000 hp or 6TD-2 with a capacity of 1200 hp) [3] weighing 1180 kg [4]
- increasing the level of protection due to the installation of additional armor modules in the frontal part of the hull and turret, the built-in dynamic protection system, as well as on-board screens in the front part of the hull (in addition, it is possible to install the Varta optical-electronic countermeasure) [3]
- installation of aiming and surveillance devices: 1A43 sighting system (with a new 1G46 range-sight [1] and 1B517M ballistic computer) [2] , PNK-4C “Agat” sighting system [2] (with a new TNK-4C sight) [1 ] [2] ,
- new gunner sighting system: TO1-KO1 “Buran” [2] (with the TPR-4 gunner's night sight) [1] [2] or TO1-KO1E (with the TPL-4E night sight) [3]
- The standard upgrade option provides for the preservation of 125-mm guns 2A46M [2] (although it is also possible to replace the gun with a 125-mm tank gun KBA-1 or a 120-mm tank gun of Ukrainian production) [3]
- a remote-controlled 12.7-mm closed-type anti-aircraft machine-gun unit is installed on the commander's hatch [3]
- in addition, the possibility of equipping the T-72AG satellite navigation system is provided [3]
It is reported that the T-72AG was able to fire the 125-mm Kombat ATGM [8] .
Variants and modifications
- T-72AMG ( T-72AMG ) - modernization option, similar to T-72AG, but without changing the power plant [9] .
- T-72UMG ( T-72UMG ) is an upgrade option similar to the T-72AMG, but with a different installation of a DZ kit on the tower.
