Biography
Hickson was born in Amherst , Massachusetts , USA . [1] His parents are coaches at American universities. Michael’s mother, Mandy Hickson, diving coach at Amherst College , [2] and Michael’s father, Dave Hickson, has been the Amherst College basketball team coach since 1977. [3] Hickson attended Amherst High School. [four]
Hickson became famous after speaking at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games . In Singapore, Hickson won a bronze medal on the 3-meter springboard, with a total of 554.65 points, Michael lost only to the Chinese Qiu Bo and the Ukrainian Alexander Bondar . [5] In 2010, Hickson participated in the World Aquatics Championship among juniors. He won silver on a 3-meter synchronized springboard, along with Christian Ipsen , [6] but in singles competitions he showed only 10 results. [7] In 2015, he participated in the World Aquatics Championship in Kazan . He won bronze on the 1 meter solo springboard, with a score of 428.30 points. [8] On a 3 meter solo springboard he stopped in the semifinals, showing 13th place with a score of 441.10 points. [9] Hickson said his goal was to win a medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . [2]
