[2]

Early life and education

Helbig was born in southern New Jersey from John Helbig and Theresa McGinnis. She has an older brother, John, and a younger brother, Tim. She grew up in Woodborne Heights, New Jersey and graduated from Gateway Regional High School. She was engaged in running, and also became the winner of several competitions in pole vaulting. [3] [4]

In 2003, Helbig began her studies at Ramapo College in Mauwa, New Jersey and graduated with the highest honor from the Ramapo School of Contemporary Art. She also put together a comedic sketch group called Baked Goods with her best friend Michelle Akin. She studied improvisation at the Peoples Improv Theater in New York City.

In 2005, Helbig took part in the Miss New Jersey USA beauty pageant, which reached the semifinals. [five]

Web Video

Content Creator

In November 2007, Helbig monitored a strange home in South Orange, New Jersey. To get rid of boredom and keep herself busy, she began filming daily videos on her GracieHinABox YouTube channel.

Starting March 2008, Helbig and her college roommate Michelle Akin (maiden name Vargas) created the YouTube channel Grace n 'Michelle . The most recent video on this channel was uploaded on October 25, 2013, when Helbig visited Akin in New York.

In early 2008, Helbig hosted a short-lived animated web series, From Bedtime Stories, to My Damn Channel, which was a parody of classic adult tales. [6] [7] Damn Channel's founder and CEO, Rob Barnett, found her personal vlogs through her profile and offered her the opportunity to post her own video blog on My Damn Channel. [8] This is how DailyGrace appeared on April 14, 2008. New episodes came out every weekday. [9] [10] [11] On October 11, 2010, DailyGrace was launched as its own YouTube channel. By the end of December 2013, the channel had gathered over 2.4 million subscribers and over 211 million video views on YouTube. [12] From the beginning of the series in April 2008 to December 2013, Helbig filmed more than 830 DailyGrace episodes for the DailyGrace channel on YouTube, plus 690 DailyGrace episodes that were exclusively published on My Damn Channel (i.e. all episodes until October 8, 2010, as well as additional videos after this date). [13]

From March 2012 to January 2013, Helbig hosted My Damn Channel LIVE once a week from the company's New York studio (Beth Hoyt conducted routine episodes). In November 2013, the series was revived in a weekly format, like My Damn Channel LIVE: Hangout , where Helbig takes part several times through a video chat from the Los Angeles studio.

On September 13, 2013, Helbig debuted her weekly web series, Grace's Faces, on Bobby Brown 's new YouTube channel, I Love Makeup . [14] [15] The series consisted of twenty-four episodes and ended on March 7, 2014.

On November 4, 2013, Helbig announced a weekly additional DailyGrace video on My Damn Channel called One Thing You Didn't Know About Me From Last Week. [16] A total of five episodes were released - the last on December 2, 2013.

On December 27, 2013, Helbig uploaded her latest episode of DailyGrace to the DailyGrace channel on YouTube. Four days later, My Damn Channel announced that Helbig had decided not to renew her long-term contract with the company, and that Helbig would not be filming the DailyGrace on YouTube further . My Damn Channel stated that the DailyGrace channel on YouTube will function exclusively as an archive, downloading early episodes of DailyGrace and other Helbig content that was previously exclusive to My Damn Channel. [17]

On January 6, 2014, Helbig restarted her personally owned, previously secondary channel it'sGrace (renamed from GracieHinABox ) as her main YouTube channel. [18] News of Helbig's departure from My Damn Channel and the launch of a personal independent channel contributed to a sharp increase in it'sGrace subscribers: from 87,000 in the last week of 2013 to over one and a half million in the first week of 2014. January 22, 2014, just two and a half weeks after the channel was restarted, it'sGrace crossed the line of 1 million subscribers. [19] On April 30, 2014, it was announced through a press release that Helbig had partnered with the Fullscreen multi-channel network . [20] On December 30, 2014, just one week before the year since the channel was restarted, it'Grace crossed the line of 2 million subscribers. As of December 2015, 2.8 million people have signed up for it'sGrace, and the total number of views is over 163 million. [21]

On July 1, 2014, Helbig and co-host Meymry Hart showed the first footage of their summer travel web series #HeyUSA on Astronauts Wanted on YouTube. [22] Eight full-length episodes were released on The Scene digital video platform on October 15, 2014. [23] The premiere of the second season of #HeyUSA took place at The Scene on April 16, 2015, but without Helbig as a travel partner with Hart. Instead, Helbig began each episode and announced the location of the episode, and also named new Hart fellow travelers: Kingsley, Tyler Oakley , Jenna Marbles , Colleen Ballinger and Flula Borg.
