Juan Nepomuceno Fernandez-Lindo-i-Zelaya ( Spanish: Juan Nepomuceno Fernández Lindo y Zelaya , better known as Juan Lindo ( Spanish: Juan Lindo ), 1790-1857) - Central American politician, President of the Republic of El Salvador from 1841 to 1842 and the Republic of Honduras from 1847 to 1852.

Biography
Born in Tegucigalpa (Captaincy General of Guatemala, later - Honduras) in the family of the landowner, in 1814 he graduated from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala , received a law degree and served in the Spanish colonial administration. After the entry of Honduras into the Mexican Empire in 1821, he served as the quartermaster in the province of Comayagua . In 1826, Lindo was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Honduras and in 1827 assisted the conservator Justo Milla in overthrowing President Dionisio Herrera . In 1838, Lindo was elected to the Constituent Assembly from the Conservative Party, and in the Constituent Assembly contributed to the separation of Honduras from the United Provinces of Central America in October 1838.
In 1840, Lindo went to El Salvador, where, with the help of General Francisco Malespina, he became Secretary of State and held this position from October 1840 to January 1841. From January 7 to February 22, 1841, he was provisional head of state, and after the independence of Salvador was declared, H. Lindo became president of the independent republic of El Salvador, and held this position until February 1, 1842.
Being the temporary head of state, on February 16, 1841, H. Lindo issued a decree establishing the University of Salvador , and also ordered the establishment of schools in each village with at least 150 inhabitants, and fined local authorities for not implementing this decree.
In 1842, leaving the post of President of El Salvador, H. Lindo returned to Honduras, where he settled in Comayagua. In 1847, after General Francisco Ferrera resigned from the post of President of Honduras, the country's parliament elected President Lindo, and he held this position from February 12, 1847 to February 1, 1852 [1] . During his tenure, H. Lindo created the University of Honduras and organized the adoption of a new constitution of the country.
During the presidency, H. Lindo concluded a military alliance with the President of El Salvador Doroteo Vasconcelos against Guatemala , led at the time by Rafael Carrera . Allied forces invaded Guatemala, but were defeated in the Battle of Chiquimula February 2, 1851 [2] .
After retiring from the post of president, H. Lindo did not engage in politics and settled in the city of Gracias, a department of Lempira , where he died in 1857.
