Early Career (2000–2007)
After training at NWA UK, DeWitt made his debut in the ring in 2000 at the age of 18, soon winning the British NWA Heavyweight Championship. After losing the title, his career began to grow rapidly, DeWitt began performing in Ireland, the UK and the USA. In mid-2002, DeWitt, along with Paul Tracy, opened an affiliate of NWA Ireland, his own training center based in Ireland. At NWA Ireland, Devitt trained future WWE Women's Champion Becky Lynch .
On October 8, 2005, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the NWA's 57th anniversary show, DeWitt defeated Drew Onyx by winning his second British Commonwealth title. At the end of 2005, DeWitt also began performing for the MWF. He made his debut in the triple threat match at Soul Survivor III on November 5th. DeWitt made his television debut in the November issue of MWF Ultra , in a match against Osirus. Impressing many promoters and trainers, he was invited to train at NJPW, where he began performing in early 2006. DeWitt lost the championship of the British Commonwealth to Carl Anderson in March 2006.
In June 2007, Devitt took part in a tournament for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) called “Return of Glory”, where he was to become the new world heavyweight champion according to the NWA. The tournament was controlled by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) for several years, but in 2007 the NWA ceased its collaboration with TNA. In the first round, Devitt defeated Australian wrestler Mikey Nichols, but lost in the second round to Brian Danielson.
New Japan Pro Wrestling
Counter Terrorism and RISE Unit (2006–2008)
The day after losing the British Commonwealth title, DeWitt signed a contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in March 2006. In April 2006, he made his NJPW debut against El Samurai using the name Prince Devitt. DeWitt later stated in an interview with PowerSlam Mag that NJPW renamed him Prince Devitt because none of the Japanese could pronounce his real name. Initially, they were going to call him King Devitt, until the fans began to resent why the 24-year-old fighter, who had not achieved anything yet, would already be king. In the end, Simon Inoki came up with the name of Prince Devitt. In May 2006, NJPW launched the exclusive PPV, and DeWitt made his debut under the guise of a fake Pegasus Kid, leading to a Devitt match with the original Pegasus Kid Chris Benoit .
During his NJPW tour in late August and early September 2006, he began to play his role as Prince Dewitt again. In the end, he teamed up with the CTU, in the role of apprentice. Working in a team with CTU, he began a losing streak, angering his teammates to the point that they no longer wanted to have anything to do with him. This led to the fact that on October 6 he was given the last chance when he could make a good impression on his teammates in order to continue working with them. To bolster his gang status, Devitt teamed up with CTU leader, Jushin Tanger Leiger, to face off against Wataru Inue and Riusuke Taguchi. As a result, it was Devitt who was the one who made the final retention on Inui. Since then, he has been officially recognized as a member of CTU.
His performances were interrupted in January 2007 when he suffered a serious knee injury, having been eliminated before the beginning of May of that year. After an injury, he returned to performances, showing significant progress, and his CTU teammate, Minoru, named him as the future winner of the 2007 Best of Super Juniors tournament. However, when the tournament was held in June 2007, Devitt did not score a single point and was excluded from the competition in the early stages. Following the collapse of CTU in August 2007, Devitt and Minoru joined the new RISE group to form a team called “Prince Prince”, which refers to both Devitt’s ring name and Minor’s nickname “Black Prince”. In November 2007, the TNA collaborated with NJPW during which DeWitt and Minoru were defeated by TNA's Senshi and Christopher Daniels.
On January 27, 2008, DeWitt and Minoru won the IWGP junior heavyweight team titles, and DeWitt won the first title at the company. They lost the titles to Akira and Jushin Tanger Liger in February, and then regained their titles on July 21. After an almost three-month Rhine, they lost the titles of Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro in October.
