Walk the Moon (stylized spelling - “WALK THE MOON” ) is an American rock band from the city of Cincinnati , Ohio . The genre of the group includes elements of pop and indie rock with elements of a new wave . The team leader, Nicholas Petrikka, assembled the group in 2008 as a student at Kenyon College. In 2010 , having changed several members, the group acquired the musicians who play to this day: Kevin Ray, Sean Wogaman, Eli Mayman [1] . The name of the group is taken from the song “ Walking on the Moon ” from the second studio album of Reggatta de Blanc by The Police [1] . Self-released debut disc I Want! I want! in November 2010 , the group got into the rotation of several alternative radio stations with the single “ Anna Sun ” [2] . In February 2011, Walk the Moon signed a contract with RCA Records and in June 2012 released their first album on a major label, called Walk the Moon [3] . The album contained most of the re-recorded tracks from I Want! I want! , as well as several new songs [4] . In December 2014, they released their second studio album on RCA Records called Talking is Hard . The album includes the most successful song of the group “ Shut Up and Dance ”, which reached the fourth line on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and topped the Billboard Alternative Songs and Billboard Rock Songs charts [5] .

History
"Anna Sun"
In November 2010, Walk the Moon released the album I Want! I want! in the hometown of Cincinnati , Ohio . The disc contained the first known track of the group " Anna Sun ". In 2011, Esquire magazine included this song in the article “30 songs of this summer that everyone should hear” [6] . According to the authors, Nicholas Petrikki and Nick Lerangis, this composition is dedicated to their professor from Kenyon College [7] [8] .
2012–2013: Walk the Moon
The group's self-titled debut album on a major label was released on June 19, 2012 . The song “Quesadilla” was included in the official soundtrack of the game FIFA 13 , and “ Tightrope ” was played in an advertisement for the HP Envy 4 laptop [9] .
2014 — Present: Talking Is Hard
On September 9, 2014, Walk the Moon released the single “ Shut Up and Dance ” on the eve of their new album [10] . On November 17, the second single, “ Different Colors ”, was released [11] . Talking is Hard was released on December 2 and took number 26 on the Billboard 200 in its first week [12] .
