Prince Valentin Mikhailovich Shakhovskoy ( September 9 ( 21 ), 1801 - June 12 ( 24 ), 1850 ) - adjutant to Count M. S. Vorontsov , real state adviser.

The only son of the foreman Mikhail Alexandrovich Shakhovsky (1758-1817) from marriage to Countess Elizabeth Sergeevna Golovina (1769-1831). The grandson of Count S.F. Golovin and the godson of Field Marshal Count V.P. Musin-Pushkin , in whose honor he received his name.
The remaining children in the family were daughters: Praskovya (1788-1835) - the 1st wife of the Decembrist A.N. Muravyov , Maria (1790-1849) - married to Mikhail Kazimirovich Golynsky, Varvara (1792-1836), Elizabeth (1797-1877) ), Martha (1799-1885) - became the wife of A.N. Muravyov after the death of her sister, Alexander (1805-1863) - the wife of N.E. Lukash .
He graduated from the Moscow School for columnar workers (1817); May 23, 1823 was transferred to the Life Guards Horse Ranger Regiment and was appointed adjutant to General M.S. Vorontsov . In the period from August 1823 to July 1824 he was an Odessa acquaintance of A. S. Pushkin [1] . In 1826 he was transferred from Odessa to Moscow as an adjutant to the Governor-General, Prince D.V. Golitsyn .
F. F. Vigel , who knew Shakhovsky at that time, left the following characteristic about him [2] :
| Kind, noble fellow, very handsome; it is a pity that the rest did not answer that. Reason would not have allowed him to close ties with people , whose opinions, it seems, he did not share at all. And subsequently, if this did not destroy him, then a lot of damage to his service. |
Upon retiring from military service with the rank of foreman, he settled with his young wife, sisters and nieces in his beautiful family estate of Volokolamsk Uyezd, the village of Belaya Kol , which, according to the testimony of Prince A.V. Meshchersky , became “a center of perpetual motion, diverse pleasures and inexhaustible gaiety of youth ” [3] .
Subsequently, he entered the civil service, for several three years (1828-1837) he was the Volokolamsk leader of the nobility . In 1835-1839 he was the caretaker of the Host Country of the Sheremetevs . Since 1840 - Director of the State Commercial Bank.
During his vacation, in 1850, being treated in Germany, Prince V.M. Shakhovskaya died of consumption in Berlin. He was buried, like his parents and first wife, at the cemetery of the Simonov Monastery in Moscow. On the whole, the legacy of Prince V.M. Shakhovsky amounted to 5187 acres of land, including villages in the Staritsky district of the Tver province.
Family
The first wife (since November 1824) - Elizaveta Alexandrovna Mukhanova (1803-1836), daughter of Alexander Ilyich Mukhanov (1766-1816) from his marriage with Natalya Alexandrovna Sablukova (1779-1855); sister of the Decembrist Peter Mukhanov . Children:
- Natalia (1825-1847), died of consumption in Rome .
- Peter (1828-1829), died in infancy
- Alexander (1831-1906), the clerk of the division, received the estate White Belt.
- Sophia (1834-1835), died in infancy
- Mikhail (1836–1892), lieutenant general who received the name of Prince Shakhovsky-Glebov-Streshnev.
The second wife (from 09.01.1839) - Countess Sofya Gavrilovna Raymond de Moden (1804-1884), maid of honor of the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna; daughter of Count Gavriil Karlovich Raymond de Moden from his marriage with Elizabeth Nikolaevna Saltykova (1773-1852). She was brilliant in conversation, which was equally appreciated in the living rooms of St. Petersburg, Berlin and Paris. She was buried in the cemetery of the Simonov Monastery in Moscow. In marriage, had a son:
- Gabriel (04.28.1842-1864), the godson of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and Alexander II, renounced his father's inheritance and in 1863 a section of the estate was drawn up, including the village of Belaya Kol, the villages of Polezhaevo, Berkunovo, Zatesovo, Plenitsino, Elizavetino, Mikhailovskoye, Temnikovo, Korotnevo, Princely Mountains, between his older brothers.
