Biography

Alexey Ilovaysky was born in 1767 on the Don and in 1776 was enlisted as a Jesula.

After long service on the lines of Tsaritsynskaya (1776-1778 gg.), Bug (1781-1782 gg.) And Caucasian (1784-1786 gg.), During which he repeatedly had to be in border affairs, Ilovaisky took part in the 2nd Turkish war and distinguished himself at Fokshany , Rymnik (received the rank of prime minister) and the assault of Ishmael , where he was seriously wounded (received the rank of lieutenant colonel), and in the defeat of the Turks at Machin . Produced on October 14, 1794 as colonel and on October 30, 1798 as major general, Ilovaysky left the service that same year and returned only in 1808 with the appointment of an indispensable member of the military chancellery. Appointed in 1812 as the marching chieftain of the Don Cossack regiments, Ilovaisky took part in the Patriotic War : near Maloyaroslavets he captured 11 guns and up to 200 prisoners from the enemy; at the Kolotsky monastery forced the enemy to leave 26 guns with shells and several hundred guns. Then he successfully participated in battles near Gzhatsk , Vyazma , Dorogobuzh , Dukhovschina (where he repelled 36 guns), during the occupation of the Yartsevskaya crossing, the city of Kovna, and in the pursuit of the enemy to Danzig . For military distinctions in this war, Ilovaisky was awarded the Order of St. March 25 . 3rd degree George No. 283

In 1820, Ilovaysky was appointed a member of the committee for the Don Cossack army , January 31, 1821, promoted to lieutenant general on September 20, 1821 as a punishable ataman of this army, from 1823 to 1827 Ilovaisky was a military ataman of the Don army and On June 7, 1827, he was removed from his post for criticizing Adjutant General Chernyshev , and finally retired on September 12, 1831.

Among other awards he had the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky , St. Vladimir , 2nd degree, St. Annas of the 1st degree, two Prussian orders - the Red Eagle of the 2nd degree and “ Pour le Mérite ”, as well as a golden saber with the inscription “For courage” .

He died in Novocherkassk on January 28, 1842. In Rostov-on-Don, one of the streets of the city ​​bears the name of a hero.
