The 21st World Ice Hockey Championship among youth teams was held in the Swiss cities of Geneva and Walrus from December 26, 1996 to January 4, 1997 . The victory was won by the hockey team of Canada , in the final with a score 2-0 defeating the US team . Bronze medals went to the Russian team .
