The 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment ( 23rd IAP ) is a military unit of the Air Force of the USSR Red Army , which took part in the hostilities during the liberation of Western Ukraine (1939) , the Soviet-Finnish War (1940) , and the annexation of Bessarabia ( 1940) and in the first battles of World War II .

The 23rd fighter aviation regiment was formed from May 1 to May 14, 1938 in the Kiev military district in Kiev on the basis of the 36th, 65th and 134th separate fighter aviation squadrons on I-15bis aircraft . He became part of the 69th fighter aircraft brigade of the Air Force KVO.

The 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment on September 15, 1941, while being reorganized in the 6th Reserve Fighter Aviation Regiment , was reorganized and renamed the 526th Fighter Aviation Regiment .
