History
Coat of arms of Kozmodemyansk (1781)
On October 18, 1781, the first emblem of the city was approved by the decree of Empress Catherine II on the Senate report on the approval of emblems for the cities of Kazan governorship. The coat of arms of Kozmodemyansk had the traditional form of city emblems - a combat shield , the so-called French form, rectangular, with ovally rounded lower corners and with a point in the middle of the lower part. In the upper part of the coat of arms - on a white field - a black dragon with a golden crown and red wings - a symbol of the Kazan province (see Zilant ) and evidence of the entry of the city of Kozmodemyansk into its composition. In the lower part:
in a red box there is a golden bow and three arrows laid on the same metal on it, as a sign that the inhabitants of these places use this weapon with excellent art.

In 1970 a new emblem of the city was approved, the author of which was V.A. Baryshkin. The coat of arms had the following description:
In the scarlet shield, a black gear wheel, encumbered on the right with a stylized green conifer, on the left with a stylized golden spike, surrounds green hills on a silver background, emerging from the azure waves. In the completed chapter of the shield on the azure field, the name of the city is silver, followed by a gold national ornament below. [2]
