John of Euchithe ( Greek Ιωάννης Εὐχάιτα , nicknamed " Mavrop " Greek. Μαυρόπους ; c. 1000 - c. 1092 ) - Metropolitan of the city of Euchany , or Euchit, in Asia Minor . Ritor and poet. It is revered in the face of the saints , the memory is celebrated on October 5 .

Biography
He lived under the emperor Konstantin Monomakh , contributed to the spread of education in Byzantium . He was a literature teacher in Constantinople. Teacher of Michael Psell .
In adulthood, John was vested with the dignity of the Metropolitan. The establishment of the celebration in Orthodoxy in 1084 of the joint memory of three saints : St. Basil the Great , Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, is connected with John the Euchite.
Better known as a church and secular poet. He left 77 letters, a few words and a number of iambic poems: epigrams on objects of worship in art, epigrams, puzzles, appeals to his home, a story about his first acquaintance with the emperor's family, etc. There is also an etymological lexicon of John. He wrote the canon used to date in the Orthodox Church on the outcome of the soul.
