History

The surrounding area of the village has a rich history, which dates back to ancient times, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds, along with numerous amphora and household items.

Before the end of the Caucasian war, various Adyghe settlements existed on the site of the modern village, which were abandoned as a result of muhajirism .

In 1869, the first vineyards were established at the mouth of the Myskhako River for the production of wines on an industrial scale. In 1903, the modern village of Myskhako was founded.

In the area of Cape Myskhako, several months of 1943, the Small Land bridgehead was held.

Etymology

The name of the village comes from the river of the same name Myskhako, in the valley of which it is located. Previously, Koldun Mountain in the vicinity of the village was also called Myskhako.

Due to the difficulty of transcribing the original Adyghe name of the area, several versions now exist regarding the origin of the name of the river (and subsequently the village).

According to the most recognized version, the toponym Myskhako comes from the Adyghe Myskheeko ( myskhe - “elm”, ko - “valley”), which means “elm valley”. This is confirmed by elm thickets in the Myskhako river valley [2] .

According to other sources, the name is translated from Adyghe as “burnt forest” or “forest in a valley by the sea”, which is not certain. There is also an assumption to present the name in the form of “myskyuk” - consisting of two Adyghe words cape and hykyu , which means “cape of dolphins”. In tourist guides, the toponym Myskhako is usually translated from Adyghe as "a cape going to the seas."
