History
May 25, 1986 at the Kiev factory " Bolshevik " was created design bureau KB-86.
In 1992, in accordance with the decision of the Industrial Policy Committee and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, KB-86 was reorganized into the Design Bureau of Artillery (KB-A ) [5] .
In the 1990s, KB-A developed a technology for updating gun barrels up to 5.5 meters long using a worn barrel of an old gun as a billet (by electroslag casting of a long hollow ingot with subsequent forging) [5] .
In May 1996, on the basis of KB-A, the Scientific and Technical Center for Artillery and Small Arms (“ STC ASO ").
In 1996, the design bureau completed the development of the 125-mm tank gun KBA-3 (unlicensed copy 2A46 ). By the end of 1997, the design bureau also developed the 82-mm KBA-48 mortar (modification of the Soviet 2B14 ), the 120-mm KBM-2 smoothbore tank gun (for the T-84-120 export tank), the 152-mm howitzer and the 30-mm automatic gun KBA-2 [6] (unlicensed copy 2A72 ).
In the early 2000s [6] , during the development work on the “Dugout” theme, the enterprise developed a unified combat module for the KBA-105 Shkval armored vehicles [7] . In addition, since the beginning of the 2000s, the enterprise has been involved in the development and creation of the BTR-3 armored personnel carrier and its modifications [8]
In 2002, about 500 m² of KB-A premises were leased (in 2013 they were returned to the enterprise) [9] .
September 27-30, 2005 at the exhibition "Arms and Security 2005" in Kiev, the Ingul combat module was developed, developed by KB-A (the production of which was mastered by the Nikolaev Mechanical Repair Plant ).
On October 28, 2005, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine , the scientific and technical center of the ASO and the design bureau of special equipment (KB-ST) merged, as a result of which the Artillery Weapon Design Bureau was created.
Subsequently, KBAO mastered the production of 30-mm automatic grenade launcher KBA-117 , intended for installation on the combat module of armored personnel carriers and armored boats [10] (an analogue of the Soviet AG-17) [11] .
By the end of 2007, KBAO completed the development of technical documentation for the 125-mm 50L Vityaz gun, 140-mm 55L Bagira gun, 125-mm KBA-3K tank gun for the T-55 tank and 125-mm KBM-1M gun tank T-72 [5] .
As of 2008, the company was able to produce the following products:
- combat module KBA-105 "Flurry" [2]
- tank guns KBA-1 and KBA-3 (unlicensed copy 2A46 ) [2]
- 152 mm towed howitzer KBA-27 [2]
- 82-mm mortar KBA-48 (modification of the Soviet 2B14 ) [2]
In the future, the company developed a new version of the 82-mm mortar KBA-48 (called KBA.48M) [12] .
After the creation of the Ukroboronprom state concern in December 2010, the KBAO was included in the concern.
In 2013, the enterprise produced 63 weapons [13] and resumed design work on the creation of new models of artillery weapons [14] . As a result, in 2013, a 60-mm mortar KBA-118 was developed and introduced (later this mortar was named M60) [15] .
In early 2014, KBAO began developing an infantry version of the KBA-117 automatic grenade launcher [10] , which received the name KBA-119 [16] .
After the outbreak of hostilities in eastern Ukraine in the spring of 2014, the enterprise was involved in the execution of a military order and increased production volumes. At the end of 2014, the CBAO was transferred to a two-shift work schedule and a six-day work week [17] . The military order for 2014, the CBAO fulfilled 98% [13] .
In February 2015, the company manufactured 33 new cannon barrels and 20 automatic grenade launchers, and updated another 12 cannon barrels [13] .
April 4, 2015 at the training ground of the National Guard of Ukraine in the village of New Petrovtsy, Kiev region, the 82-mm mortar KBA.48M1 [18] was presented - a modification of the KBA.48M mortar mounted on the Dnepr-16M motorcycle [19] .
September 22, 2015 at the exhibition of armaments held in Kiev " Zbroya bezpeka -2015 ”KBAO presented a 82-mm mortar mounted on an ATV [20] and a mock-up of the BM-23 combat module with a 23-mm automatic gun for installation on light armored vehicles and long-term firing points.
In 2015, KBAO delivered about 500 units of the enterprise’s products to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (including barrels for guns BTR-3, BTR-4 and BMP-2) [3] .
On October 10, 2017, at the weapons exhibition “Zbroya and bezpeka-2017” held in Kiev, the KAO presented the 23-mm KBA40 barrel for the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun, which can also be used in Ukrainian-made combat modules [21] .
In August 2019, the company completed the testing program of the 23-mm KBA-40 barrel for the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft installation, which it was proposed to use to replace Soviet-made ZU-23-2 exhausted barrels, as well as in combat modules with 23 mm automatic tools [22] .
