John took the Serbian throne in Srem and became co-ruler of his brother George in 1493. In 1494, the brothers fought together against the Duke of Lovra, and in December of that year captured Mitrovica. In early 1496, George renounced the throne in favor of his brother and tonsured monks. John became the sole ruler of Srem. His main task, John saw the expulsion of the Turks from Serbia. He conducted several successful operations on the territory of Bosnia, in the vicinity of Zvornik, and sought an alliance with the Republic of Venice to fulfill his dream, but the sudden death of December 10, 1502 prevented its realization.
From the marriage with Elena Yakšić (sister or aunt Anna Glinska ), Jovan Branković had no sons, but there were several daughters who were married to the Moldavian ruler Peter Rareš , as well as to the Lithuanian princes Vishnevetsky, Czartoryski, Sangushka and Zbarazhsky [1] .
