Biography
Born into an impoverished Cossack family, in 1892, at the expense of the Astrakhan Cossack army, he graduated from the Astrakhan gymnasium with a gold medal and in the same year entered the law faculty of St. Petersburg University , where he also studied at the expense of the Cossack army [1] . In 1897 he graduated from the university with a diploma of the first degree, after which he entered into revolutionary activity, for which he was expelled abroad from 1907 to 1912.
After the October Revolution of 1917, he became professor of philosophy at the newly organized Socialist Academy of Social Sciences in Moscow (1918), and also took an active part in the creation of Smolensk University and was its first rector from 1918 to 1923 [2] . In 1923, V.K.Serezhnikov returned to work in Moscow, where he served as dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Moscow State University (1923-1925), taught at the Russian Academy of Sciences , and also held a number of other posts at Moscow State University: head of the department of istmatism and diamate of the faculty of literature and art (1930-1931), professor of the department of the history of class struggle and Leninism of the faculty of Soviet law (1926-1930), professor of the department of historical materialism of the ethnological faculty (1925-1926), chairman of the social-pedagogical department (1923), professor of the department of historical materialism (1923-1925), member of the Board of Moscow State University (1929) [3] .
In March 1932 he was appointed director of the University of Leningrad and held this position until October 1933 [4] , in 1934 he was the director of the History Museum . In 1932-1938 he worked as a professor at the MIFLI Faculty of Philosophy.
V.K.Serezhnikov was fluent in Latin , Greek , French and German . He translated the works of Lametri, Diderot, Plato. He published a number of scientific works on the history of philosophy, dialectical and historical materialism , one of the first in the country of anthology on dialectical materialism. In 1937, V.K.Serezhnikov was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by the totality of his works.
April 27, 1938 V.K.Serezhnikov was arrested, convicted on September 10, 1941 [1] , died in custody in 1944. Rehabilitated posthumously September 28, 1955.
