When his father was killed, Gosfred was about 10 years old, and until 1121 his uncle Arnold Gosfred was regent of the county.

Little historical information about Gosfred III has been preserved. He was at enmity with Trankavels , the Viscounts of Beziers (relatives of his wife), and was friends with the Counts of Ampurias.
He was the overlord of the troubadour of Berenciere de Palazole.
