It was published in Tiflis from November 1872 to 1873. 8 issues of the magazine came out.
Articles published in the journal dealt mainly with local history. Valuable historical documents were published: translations of unpublished works of Caucasian chroniclers, articles on the history of the East, a description of customs and rituals, household items of the Caucasian peoples, their songs, proverbs, sayings, legends, and tales. The bibliographic section posted annotations on books about the Caucasus in Russian and the languages of the peoples of the Caucasus, and works by foreign authors.
In “Caucasian Antiquity”, an anonymous letter from Tehran to Archbishop Neress (Patriarch) “On the reasons for the murder of A. S. Griboedov ” (1872, No. 1) was first published. The journal published articles of Prince. R. Hristova “On the peasant estate in Mingrelia” (1873, No. 4-5, 6), “The beginning of the press among the Armenians in the XVI century” (1873, No. 4-5), “On the privileged classes in Mingrelia” (1873, No. 6) and others.
