Inherited his father no earlier than 1056. Not later than 1062 he married Ermengard , daughter of Count Carcassonne Pierre Raimund .
He was the first to adopt the name Trankavel, which later became permanent in his family. First mentioned with this name in a document dated June 26, 1070. In Chinese, trenca avelana means "gnawing nuts", in Provencal trencar vel - "cut through."
Last mentioned in a document dated June 12, 1073. In the same year or early next he died.
Son - Bernard Aton IV Trancavel (d. 1129) - Viscount Albi, Nimes, Carcassonne, Razes, Beziers and Agda.
