Appearance

Axis is a graceful deer with a reddish-golden coat color , on which small white spots are scattered. Height at the withers: 75–95 cm. Horns: up to 75 cm long. Weight 75–100 kg.

Distribution

Axises live in the forest foothills of the Himalayas and in Ceylon . This is the most common deer of India , the number of which is constantly increasing. It is not found only in dry places without vegetation. Successfully acclimatized in the forests of Armenia .

Lifestyle

Axises live in large herds of several hundred heads - adult males and females, newborn deer, teenage deer.

Life expectancy: up to 15 years in captivity.

Reproduction

Puberty: female - at 1 year old, male - from 4 years old. Axis female brings reindeer every 7-7.5 months. At one time, the female often gives birth to 2 deer, but sometimes there may be one or three deer in the litter.

Predators

The main enemy of Axis is the Bengal tiger . Red deer wolves , leopards , hyenas , jackals , crocodiles and very large pythons also attack this deer.
