The misfortune of his life was a passion for Magdalena Sibylle Neitshuts , the daughter of a guard officer; according to the superstition of that time, this passion was attributed to witchcraft. Johann’s political leader was Schöning , who, wanting to distract him from the enthusiasm of Magdalena Neutshütz, arranged his marriage with the widowed margravine Eleonora of Saxe-Eisenach , but this marriage did not lead to the desired goal and was very unhappy.
Schöning tried to put an end to the exploitation of Saxony by Austria and insisted on the emperor’s support of the rights of the Elector to Lauenburg , against Brandenburg . When these demands were rejected, Johann withdrew his troops from the Rhine . Then the emperor captured Schöning in the Greenhouse and imprisoned him in a fortress.
The title of the imperial Countess von Rohlitz , given by the emperor Magdalena Sibile Neutsütz, inclined Johann to a new union with the emperor. He put 12,000 against the French and, at the news of the ruin of Heidelberg , he himself moved towards the Rhine; but the birth of a daughter from Magdalena Neutshuts was made him delay, and the French were able to move forward without hindrance. Extremely upset that the Margrave of Baden did not recognize him as commander-in-chief of the imperial army, and free efforts to release Schöning, Johann IV threatened to withdraw his troops, but he contracted smallpox from the dying Neutschütz and died.
Children
Johann George did not have a legitimate heir, but Magdalena Sibilla was born in 1693 of his daughter Wilhelmina Maria Frederick. Johann Georg Augustus , younger brother, became guardian of Wilhelmina Maria, raised her in his court, recognized her as his niece and gave a dowry when she married Radomsky castellan Sventoslav Peter Dunin in 1720. Poet Anthony Malchevsky was her great-grandson.
